Explaining the Annotated Catalogue

Our aim in preparing this catalogue has been to define and systematically apply a comprehensive set of bibliographic principles suitable to the material in question and taking relevant contextual factors into acĀcount. To use the catalogue to full advantage, readers must be familiar with these principles, the criteria for classifying and dating individual scores, and the different modes of description and terminology. These are explained in the sections that follow, which should be read in conjunction with the Historical overview.
